New ambassador of European Universities Games

New ambassador of European Universities Games
Exactly one month before the Opening Ceremony, European Universities Games 2014 are proud to present their new ambassador: Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Since Mr van Bronckhorst ended his impressive football career, by player for clubs as Feyenoord, FC Barcelona and the Dutch national team, he is committed to his foundation SV Gio: ‘As former professional athlete I know what a difference sport can make and how it can benefit young people in their education. That is why it’s great to contribute to this amazing event where so many student athletes from all over Europe can compete against each other; an unique opportunity for these athletes.’

SV Gio was founded by van Bronckhorst and his wife, who both have a passion for sports. Their sports and learning club offers guidance to children in the last two years of primary school, coaching them like world-class athletes and helping them get off to a good start at secondary school. Tournament director of the EUGames2014 Henk Smit commented on the presentation of van Bronckhorst: “We are honoured that van Bronckhorst wants to contribute to our event as an ambassador, the work he does with his foundation is important for the future of kids and therefore for the city of Rotterdam. The EUGames2014 shows us that sports and education can go hand in hand and that they can strengthen each other. Therefore we hope this event is a great stimulus for many kids.’
