MEFS - EUSA and FISU cooperation meeting in Budapest

On the occasion of the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, European University Sports Association (EUSA) President Adam Roczek on 23rd of August had a meeting with representatives of the Hungarian University Sports Federation (MESF) and of International University Sports Federation (FISU).

Held in the National Athletics Centre of the Hungarian capital, the meeting involved dr. Adam Schmidt, State Secretary for Sport for Hungary, Mr Leonz Eder FISU Acting President, Mr Adam Roczek EUSA President, Mr Lajos Mocsai MEFS President, Mr Peter Juhasz MEFS Secretary General, Ms Agnes Ancic-Valkai, MEFS Director of International Relations.

The conversation revolved around MEFS remarkable contribution to the development of university sport, both in Europe and internationally. MEFS is one of the oldest university sports federations all over the world and also very active in organisation, having for example hosted many World University Championships and FISU World University Games in the summer of 1965.

The support of the Hungarian Government was underlined, as 21 Hungarian universities receive important financial support every year to further develop university sports.


Dual Career programs are a key factor of sporting and personal development of professional athletes, and career after career the role of the Universities and university sport is becoming more and more crucial in the national and international context.

The always excellent cooperation between MEFS – EUSA and FISU during the last years became even stronger, with Hungarian University Sports Federation being nowadays one of the most active Federations in Europe.
Present and future plans were also discussed, since Debrecen-Miskolc European Universities Games 2024 are fast approaching and other international sports bids are being considered by the hungarian federations.

EUSA President Roczek praised the role that MEFS plays in European university sports, under the leadership of Lajos Mocsai.

Debrecen-Miskolc will host the European Universities Games from 12-24 July 2024, with more than 4500 athletes expected to compete in 20 different sports.
The 7th edition of the event will be the largest university sport event in Hungary since 1965.
