Describe how and why did you get involved with volunteering at EUSA events?
The first contact with the EUSA Football 2017 event was through Facebook, as I met people from FAP (Academic Federation of Porto) who shared the event. Participating in an international event always pleased me and it was something I wanted to accomplish and the fact that it was in my city led me to not miss this opportunity. I sent the application for volunteer and I ended up as a coordinator.
"No doubt that I will apply for EUG 2018 Coimbra."
Tell us about your involvement in sport.
Sports have always been part of my life since the early days. I practiced swimming, played football with my friends and more recently I've been running in order to participate in a half marathon and maybe a marathon in the future. I consider myself a sportsman, not only for being a practicer but also for enjoying a huge variety of sports. In short, I breathe sports.
Describe your experience of volunteering at the European Universities Championships 2017. Is this your first time volunteering at an international sports event?
The week of 23 to 30 of July 2017 will always stay marked in my memory. It was a busy week but at the end was completely worth it. Also, the people I met: volunteers, players and their staff, referees and EUSA staff, made the week culturally enriching because of the interactivity that was between us, making it an epic experience. The mutual support and companionship between all the actors was something that marked me a lot, because everyone wanted the event to be as a success.
"...an epic experience."
In 2018 the European Universities Games 2018 will take place in Coimbra, Portugal, we would love to see you there again! Will you apply for the EUG 2018 Volunteer programme?
No doubt that I will apply for EUG 2018 Coimbra. Being in Portugal is something that helps my decision a lot and I believe that my previous experience may prove to be useful when it comes to handling the online results platform.
This is your chance! What is your message to young Europeans interested in volunteering?
If you're thinking for applying as a volunteer, DO NOT HESITATE! You will grow with this experience, you will be enriched on a cultural level because you will be in contact with people from all sides of Europe and I believe that you will enjoy yourself a lot.
Come be part of this family!
