Briefly describe how and why did you get involved with Futsal?
I was competitive since I was a child. I couldn’t stand in one place, always moving, always falling, always dancing and laughing. I had so much energy that I found sport by myself. My parents never said anything about “what should I do”. My soul found athletic, after that football and finally fell in love with futsal.
"The most important thing for me is to know what I want the most and how to get it."
What do you study? How do you balance your study, trainings and competitions?
I study Kinesiology at Zagreb University. I am just finishing my PhD thesis about first division men futsal (performance analysis study). I have my priorities and that’s how I managed to do everything I ever did. According to my priority in specific situation or period, I put this in the middle and rest of the things go beside or around main thing. I work fast, efficient, without too much thinking and hesitating. The most important thing for me is to know what I want the most and how to get it.
Tell us about your experience at the European Universities Futsal Championships 2017. Is this your first time at an EUSA event?
My first engagement at the EUSA event was in 2010.playing for Zagreb university futsal team on the first Championship for women. My second experience was organising European Universities Games in Zagreb and Rijeka in 2016. as well as being part of it later as a player. The last one was Turkey in 2017. and it was one of the two most valuable experiences of my life.
I lived the highest level of thousand most different emotions that never thought I will, but I survived in the most beautiful way and I will never forget it.
The European Universities Games 2018 will take place in Coimbra, Portugal, do you hope to be there? Why do you think university sport events are important?
I dream of being there along with my team. We talk about it since we came back from Turkey and we can’t wait to play again and take the gold.
Being sportsmen is priceless, whatever you choose for yourself…individual or team sport. It feeds one’s sole and there is no replacement for it. Being academic (confident, intelligent, resourceful, insightful and educated) in the combination with being sportsmen is something nobody can take away from you. It is a treasure, I would say.
"If the sport is what inspires you, you should use every minute of it"
This is your chance! What is your message to European students like yourself?
Play the game. You will never have the time you have now to enjoy something you truly love. If the sport is what inspires you, you should use every minute of it- smiling while you do it, shaking hands with the team mates or opponents and make every run counts.
EUSA would like to congratulate Tihana on becoming the MVP of European Universities Futsal Championship in 2017, we wish her the best in her studies, and we hope to see her at the European Universities Games 2018 in Coimbra!
