Describe how and why did you get involved with EUSA Volunteer Programme?
I saw an announcement for the EUSA EUG Zagreb – Rijeka 2016 on the internet and decided to apply. I had enough free time that summer and thought it would be great to invest it into something as exciting as this. It was a great experience for me so I decided to apply for some of the EUCs in 2017, and I was accepted by the events in Fuengirola for the international volunteer programme.
Tell us about your involvement in sport.
I’m not involved in any high level sport but I try to stay as active as possible by working out, jogging and doing recreational sports.
Describe your experience of volunteering at the European Universities Championships 2017. Is this your first time volunteering at an international sports event?
I have volunteered in two EUCs this year: in Split in July and in Fuengirola in September. Both experiences were very valuable to me. Apart from improving my skills and acquiring new ones, I have met, worked and spent time with wonderful people from Croatia and other parts of Europe. Like I said earlier, I have volunteered at international sports events but EUC in Fuengirola was my first experience as an international volunteer and I am lucky and grateful to have been a part of it.
"an excellent opportunity to gain new experiences, learn new things, travel, meet different people and make connections"
In 2018 the European Universities Games 2018 will take place in Coimbra, Portugal, we would love to see you there again! Will you apply again for the EUSA Volunteer Programme?
I would love to be there, and hope I will... I have been thinking about applying but I am not sure yet if I will have free time in July due to my university timetable and other things.
This is your chance! What is your message to young Europeans interested in volunteering?
Go for it! It is an excellent opportunity to gain new experiences, learn new things, travel, meet different people and make connections but most importantly to improve yourselves.
EUSA would like to say a massive thank you to Katja for volunteering at EUSA events in the last few years, it was a pleasure to have her as aprt of the team! We wish her the best in her studies, and we hope to see her at the games in July!
