Briefly describe how and why did you get involved with Basketball?
In childhood I was doing all kind of sports. I am from the countryside and then we did all kind of sports. When I was in 6th grade I started playing basketball more seriously because I liked it the most.
"Every event has been a great experience - lot of fun, good competition, sightseeing, little bit relaxing and meeting other athletes from other countries."
What do you study? How do you balance your study, trainings and competitions?
I study Forest management. Sometimes it is hard when I have long days at school or study trips. Usually every evening, besides Friday and Saturday is practice so not very much free time. All in all I have my routine and sometimes it is tough, but that’s what it takes to get good results in basketball or in any other sports.
Tell us about your experience at the European Universities Basketball Championships 2017. Is this your first time at an EUSA event?
European Universities Basketball Championships in Miskolc was great. We finished 4th almost getting the bronze medal. We still feel a little bit sad about it, but our goal was to finish in top 8, so actually we did a really great job there. Overall Miskolc is a great city and experience was very good.
I have been in Slovenia (Koper) 2015 and 2016 in Croatia, Zagreb. Every event has been a great experience - lot of fun, good competition, sightseeing, little bit relaxing and meeting other athletes from other countries. And of course the food has been outstanding, especially in Slovenia and Hungary.
"If you have opportunity to go to EUSA competitions, then go!"
In 2018 the European Universities Games 2018 will take place in Coimbra, Portugal, do you hope to be there? Why do you think university sport events are important?
Unfortunately we won’t be there this year, because we lost the finals of Estonian National Championship.
University sport events are important because they really give you a lot of experience. Playing against different players in other weather conditions. When we were playing in Croatia in 2016 there was over 40 degrees in the sports hall and that was tough, but local team was used to it and we were literally sweating all the time in the court.
Of course sightseeing and partying are other reasons why you need to go to university sport events.
This is your chance! What is your message to European students like yourself?
If you have opportunity to go to EUSA competitions, then go! It is a lot of fun. But most importantly, stay in school and educate yourself! And do SPORT!
EUSA would like to thank Argo and his team for competing at EUSA events and we hope to see them in 2019. Start your EUSA story this year at Coimbra!
