Matthias Remund officially joins FISU as new Secretary General and CEO
International University Sports Federation (FISU) new Secretary General and CEO Mr Matthias Remund has now taken his new position at FISU’s headquarters in the Synathlon building on the Lausanne University campus.
Eric Saintrond, after a distinguished career of four decades serving university sports, has retired from his position as FISU Secretary General and CEO.
Matthias Remund, former director of FOSPO, Switzerland’s highest sports authority, has been appointed to succeed him as announced in March by the organisation itself. Mr Remund is an experienced executive in numerous fields, amongst which federal administration, sports politics and administration on a national and international level, strategic management of pension funds and business process reengineering.
The handover of responsibilities between the two FISU Secretaries General and CEOs took place concurrently with a small ceremony honouring the 75th anniversary of the International University Sports Federation, held in Lausanne, Switzerland, on November 27th.
Present General Director Mr Paulo Ferreira, and present Director of Development Mr Fernando Parente also officially took their early announced new positions in the organisation, respectively as FISU Deputy Secretary General/COO and FISU Deputy Secretary General/CDO.
FISU President Leonz Eder expressed his gratitude to Saintrond for his significant contributions to the organisation, praising his innovative spirit, problem-solving abilities, and dedication to university sports.
Mr Eder also expressed enthusiasm for Remund's appointment, highlighting his experience in sports promotion and his potential to build upon Saintrond's legacy. The President expressed confidence in Remund's ability to lead FISU to new heights.
EUSA, on behalf of its Executive Committee, congratulates Mr Matthias Remund on his new position as new FISU Secretary General and CEO, wishing him success and great achievements on this new step in his career, and looking forward to building successful and fruitful cooperation.
EUSA, together with its family and community, would like to also express gratitude to the outgoing one Mr Saintrond for his leadership, dedication, efforts, and invaluable contribution to the development of university sports during his career.
EUSA and FISU, recognizing the shared vision of promoting and developing university sports, have established and are more committed than ever to a strategic partnership and collaboration for the development and elevation of the university sports movement both within Europe and on a global scale.
