Malaga hosts successful universities conference
The University of Malaga played host to a successful conference focusing on University Sport as part of the European Week of Sport, where EUSA was also present.
The conference, which took place over September 22 and 23, brought together a number of universities to discuss the impact university sport can have on the European Week of Sport, which is currently being celebrated across European from September 23-30 after it’s official opening in Espoo, Finland which currently holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Present at the conference on behalf of EUSA was Sports Manager Mr Besim Aliti.
A number of wide-ranging sub-topics were discussed under the guidance of the conference’s host Mr Pedro Montiel, Director of Sport at the University of Malaga.
Mr Aliti presented EUSA’s sport programme to those present while analysing the trends of university sport in Europe, while Mr Alejandro Guerra, World Cups Coordinator at FISU, gave an overview of FISU’s history and activities before presenting the federation’s sport programme in the upcoming years.
The conference was deemed a resounding success by all present, with the University of Malaga and its near 40 000 students having a profound impact in Spain as one of the country’s biggest universities.
The University is also a constant performer at EUSA competitions, where this year they were crowned champions in the men’s European Universities Futsal Championships, claimed bronze in the men’s 3x3 Basketball Championships while also winning a number of individual medals in Karate at the EUSA Combat Championships.
Malaga also played host to this year’s European Universities Golf Championships, and in two years’ time will host two more European Universities Championships in Beach Volleyball and Beach Handball respectively.
