Lisbon to host EUSA Rugby7s in 2023

On 14th of February, the Inspection visit of the European Universities Championship in Rugby7s took place, as a check up on the ongoing preparations for the competition that with the newly confirmed dates, will take place from 28-31 of August, in the Portuguese capital, the city of Lisbon.

At the inspection visit, EUSA was represented by EUSA Technical Delegate for Rugby7s Ms Mària Gyolcsos and EUSA Sports Manager Mr Miha Zvan. The visit was led by the Secretary General of the competition Mr João Machado, and by other members of the local organizing committee, namely the Portuguese Academic Federation of University Sport (FADU), the Sports Association of Higher Education of Lisbon (ADESL) and the Nova University of Lisbon (NOVA), including Mr Marco Oliveira, member of the Organisational Committee. 

During the visit, the proposals for sports facilities, accommodation, and food, between the Lisbon University Stadium and the Higher Institute of Agronomy, were presented. The inspection visit delegation visited the sports venue part of the University Stadium of Lisbon, the potential EUSA offices and Accreditation centre.

Later in the day, the delegation also visited the other potential sport venues and supporting facilities as well as the accommodation buildings and canteen. The Inspection Visit was wrapped up with a visit to the Headquarters of FADU and a visit evaluation meeting.

The European Universities Championship in Rugby7s expects the participation of around 20 teams, in both male and female competition, as well as officials, volunteers, referees, and members of the organizing committee. The event will also have the support of the Portuguese Rugby Federation, the Lisbon City Council and the Government of Portugal. 

EUSA thanked the OC for the hospitality and congratulated them on the great ongoing preparations, believing that the event will reach a great success.
