Lausanne in Motion 2014 a success

Lausanne hosted the first edition of the International Festival of University Sport "Lausanne in Motion" on September 20, organised by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The event was held at the shoreline of Lake Geneva, at the Place de la Navigation in Lausanne and was a genuine success.

Lausanne in Motion was a free event, open to everyone. It was a meeting between the students, university, inhabitants and visitors of Lausanne. A way to move the citizens and also and take sports outside the university campus. Finally, this was also an opportunity for FISU to thank the city of Lausanne for its hospitality as the seat of the federation has been located there since 2011.

Various sports and recreational activities were offered

The purpose of the International University Sports Festival was for wider public to discover sports as well as FISU’s university sport values in the city of Lausanne and to ‘move’ the sport festival participants via an introduction to new sports. Workshops with the different sports were all taken over by everyone who wanted to learn about the demonstrated various activities, sports and disciplines. Abdoattack, bodyart, bokwa, breakdance, capoeira, cheerleading, dancing, discofit, juggling, kick-boxing, pilates, salsa, self-defense, slackline, taebo, t-bow, yoga, zumba, were, among the others, demonstrated – with active involvement of the visitors. The day ended with music concerts featuring bands and DJs.

FISU President

FISU President Mr Claude-Louis Gallien addressed the participants before the concert, stressing that he was very proud of the success of this event and thanked all participants for attending and the partners including the University of Lausanne, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne and their sport services, the region and the city, Swiss University Sport Federation and other partners and sponsors who enthusiastically supported the event. FISU was also represented at the event by Mr Leonz Eder, Vice-President; present were also some other members of the Executive Committee, various Commissions and staff.

Concerts concluded the day

The concept in the framework of the "International University Sports Day" has been proposed by FISU to UNESCO. Should the proposal be accepted, there will be one internationally recognised dedicated day, encouraging students and citizens to participate in physical activities. The International University Sports Day could be easily adopted by universities and campuses around the world.
