Last EUG2016 competitions and medals in Rijeka

On Monday, July 25, the European Universities Games saw last competitions and medal awardings in Rijeka. Basketball 3x3, Judo, Taekwondo, Swimming and Para Swimming were the last sports which concluded the sports programme of the Games.

Kantrida Swimming Pool Complex in Rijeka housed the Swimming and Para Swimming events. Aquatic sports were first featured at EUSA events as demonstrative sports, and were received very well.

Swimming - a first at EUSA sport events

Several disciplines were featured, most impressive one being the team tournament - freestyle relay 4 x 50 m. In men's category, the best university team was the one of the University of Zagreb (CRO) and Yeditepe University (TUR) in women's.

Medal awardings in swimming and para swimming

Taekwondo was held at the Mladost Sports Hall, and included Recognized Poomsae tournament, Free-Style Poomsae tournament and Kyorugi tournament for men and women. Apart from Karate, which was organised in Zagreb at the beginning of the Games, martial arts were also represented by Judo competitions, hosted in Zamet Hall in Rijeka.

Basketball 3x3 was organised in the city center of Rijeka at the Korzo street, justifying its nickname street-basket. With a lot of interest from the spectators, this sport, very popular among the youth, competitions in Basketball 3x3 were the last ones of the European Universities Games.

Croatian team of the University of Split had to confess the supremacy of the University of Kragujevac from the neighbouring Serbia in men's competition, who won the title for second consecutive time. In women's category, another university from a neighbouring country - University of Ljubljana from Slovenia fought to win the title against the Lithuanian Sport University from Lithuania, the latter winning the champions title in the end.

The closing ceremony will officially conclude the 3rd edition of the European Universities Games, starting at 9PM tonight.
