Koper 2019 bids its participants farewell
This year’s European Universities Beach Volleyball and Water Polo Championships have come to an end following the final of the Water Polo competition which took place in Koper, Slovenia on July 27.
The competition was attended by 24 female and 23 male teams for Beach Volleyball and five male teams for Water Polo, with athletes, coaches and referees coming from 23 different countries.
The Beach Volleyball finals took place on Friday, 26 July where the University of Vienna overcame the University of Warsaw to claimed the women’s trophy, while Lithuanian Sports University earned the bronze medal.
In the men’s competition, following Vytautas Magnus University’s victory over Poznan University of Life Sciences to claim third place, a massive storm hit Koper and after a long delay, it was decided that the men’s final could not be played, with Austria’s University of Linz and University of Graz sharing the gold medal.
The Water Polo finals took place the following evening with Germany’s Rhine Westphalia Institute of Technology Aachen overcoming local team University of Primorska to win the bronze medal, while Lodz University of Technology proved too strong for the Budapest Business School, beating them 12-9 to be crowned the first European Universities Water Polo Champions.

EUSA Executive Committee members Mr Ceslovas Garbaliauskas and Mr Bruno Barracosa, together with Technical Delegates Mr Adriano Paco and Mr Attila Marosvar, assisted also by EUSA Staff members Mr Andrej Pisl and Mr Fabio De Dominicis worked with the local hosts in the organisation of the event.
The 2021 European Universities Beach Volleyball Championship will be combined with the Beach Handball event, and will take place in Malaga, Spain.
