Kick-off Meeting of the Inclusion and Diversity Commission
EUSA Inclusion and Diversity Commission meet for the first time on March 10, 2022. Members of the Commission, known in the previous mandate as the Equal Opportunities Commission, were nominated for the next 4 years.
The Commission is chaired by Mr Bruno Barracosa (POR), EUSA Executive Committee Member, and the Commission has 4 members: Ms Kay Biscomb (GBR), Ms Ines Lenze (GER), Ms Tatsiana Andruszka (POL) and Mr Kjell-Erik Kvamsdal (NOR), with Ms Sara Rozman (SLO), EUSA Education and Development Manager serving as the Secretary of the Commission.
The primary objective of the Inclusion and Diversity Commission is to supervise and advise on the work of European University Sports Association in the field of activities and projects promoting inclusion, diversity, and equal opportunities. The main goal of the Commission is to promote inclusion and diversity in university sport, which includes spreading values of gender equality, fighting against discrimination, violence, and harassment. Overall: to make university sport a safe, equitable and accessible space for all.
Following the opening remarks from EUSA President Mr Adam Roczek and EUSA Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, the Commission's members have been introduced to some of the previous year’s initiatives, one of them being the minimum gender representation quota as means to equalise the gender representation in the EUSA Executive Committee. The Commission has been a strong advocate for a more gender balanced representation in sport leading positions and in sport in general.
Preliminary discussions focused on the Commission's goals for 2022 and the goals and activities for the time of the mandate, considering the European Universities Games 2022 in Lodz, the multiple projects funded by the Erasmus+ Programme in which the EUSA Institute takes part and where also the Commission members could contribute, the needs of the sport actors including EUSA members and having in mind the current political situation in Europe.
It is foreseen that the members will have 3 online and one live meeting in 2022.
