Kazan actively preparing for Universiade

During their stay in Russia, the representatives of FISU and EUSA had an opportunity to meet members of the Summer Universiade 2013 Organising Committee which will be held in Kazan. The capital city of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan is proving day by day that the decision to attribute the World University Games to Kazan was the right choice.

 

Mr Marat Bariev

On the roundtable on the university sport Mr Marat Bariev, Executive Director of the Russian Olympic Committee and former Minister of Youth, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan presented the progress report on the games. He stressed that the all the construction works run according to the plans and that the event will be organised on the highest level possible. By the beginning of the games, Kazan will put into operation 64 sport facilities that will be used for 26 sports on the universiade programme.

 

Model of the Kazan Universiade village

The City of Kazan is present also on the Exhibition “Modern Sport: Innovations and Perspectives” which is held is held within the framework of the forum. The university sport leaders had an opportunity to meet Mr Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan who presented the project of the universiade village which will be ready to host 14.000 participants from all over the world. Minister of Youth, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan Mr Rafis Burganov and General Director of 2013 Kazan Universiade Mr Vladimir Leonov were also present on the Kazan stand.

 

University sport family

Mr Alberto Gualtieri, EUSA President and Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, Secretary General took the opportunity to thank the representatives of Tatarstan and Kazan for a splendid organisation of European Universities Championships in Table Tennis and Beach Volleyball which were organised this year in Kazan.

 

Signing of the Memorandum

Later on, the Memorandum on creation of the FISU International Education Center for developing international education, sports and cultural programs in university sports was signed. The international education centre will be run by the Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism in Kazan. The signing ceremony was attended by FISU President Mr Killian, Tatarstan President Mr Minnikhanov, Minister of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy Mr Mutko and President of RSSU Mr Oleg Matytsin.
