Israeli university sport back up and running
A total of six different sport competitions were organised by Israel’s Academic Sports Association over the last month, as student-athletes made a welcome return to sporting activity.
While the regular championships in March were unable to take place due to the global pandemic, an easing of restrictions allowed ASA Israel to organise six mini-championships in a traditional Games format over June 6-8 is the city of Eilat.
The sports included on the programme were beach volleyball, futsal, swimming, sports climbing, tennis and 3x3 basketball, with events includes of both male and female student-athletes.
In total, over 700 students from 15 academic institutions across Israel participated in the organised events, which were carried out successfully and in good spirit.
Organisers hope the regular format of the ASA Games will be permitted for the next edition, set to take place in March 2022, which would include international student involvement.
