Technical delegate of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) Mr Peter George visited Koper and the venues of the 2015 European Universities Basketball Championship, on November 16 and 17, 2014.
Mr George gave positive assessment for the adequacy of Koper sports facilities and the preparation of the organizers of the 2015 European Universities Basketball Championship.
University Sports Association of Primorska (USZP) will organize the 13th European University Basketball Championship in June 2015 in partnership with the Slovenian University Sports Association (SUSA) and the University of Primorska (UP), hosted the EUSA basketball technical delegate, which has reviewed and assessed the adequacy of all three buildings (Arena Bonifika, Elementary School Koper and STS Koper) that will host the contest for 16 men and 12 women's European Universities teams.
Already on Sunday, the technical delegate met with the Rector of the University of Primorska, prof. dr. Dragan Marusic with whom he discussed issues of student sports, especially basketball, which is their common passion from an early age. He stressed that he is pleased that the university by all available means and know-how stands behind the championship and gives full support to the organizer. In further reflection he said that in other countries universities in order to organize championships offer for students who actively participate in the preparation or even actively play to get ECTS points. That can be additional motivation for students to prepare a successful championship.
Meeting with the Mayor of the Municipality of Koper Mr Boris Popovic, Mr George also stated that the success of organizational performance of the championship largely depends on the local community and support. He believes that it is definitely the case for the city of Koper, as he was positively surprised at the correlation between Koper city size and the quality and number of implemented sporting events.
President of the organizing committee Mr Marko Juretic stated that the OC is pleased and happy that the first official review has been positive, opening the way for the future and that they are on the right track for a successful event.
