Hungary: success and sorrow

Submissive celebration took place in the past days at the Headquarters of the Hungarian University Sports Federation (HUSF). The awarding of the 2009 Belgrade Summer Universiade medallists took place following the regrettable loss of Dr. Robert Frenkl. Dr. Beáta Simóka, under-secretary for sports appreciated the athlete’s achievement and awarded them with HUSF plaquette for Outstanding merits in university sports and a Certificate of merit.

Following the awarding ceremony the HUSF General Assembly took place with the referral of the HUSF Executive Board and the accomplishment of the last year’s programs. All reports have been accepted by the Assembly. HUSF Vice President and Universiade Head of Delegation Dr. Pál Vincze has been authorized to fulfil the President’s duties and responsibilities until the elections next year.

At the end of the Assembly Dr. Robert Frenkl has been awarded a posthumous honorary award handed over to his wife, Sylvia. The participants also decided the foundation of the Dr. Robert Frenkl Award.

Another festivity took place in the city of Sopron, where the finals of the National University Basketball Championship have been organized by the SMAFC university sports club celebrating at the same time the 150th anniversary of its foundation. Thanks to the Hungarian press the event got great publicity. HUSF Executive Board was represented by Prof. emeritus Lajos Bessenyei, awarding the club and the university with the HUSF Cup.
