Hungary salutes Universiade participants

On September 20th, the Hungarian participants of the 26th Summer Universiade were awarded with due decorum in Budapest. The ceremony was held by the Hungarian University Sports Federation in cooperation with the Semmelweis University, Faculty of Sports and Physical Education, in the assembly hall of the university founded in 1925.

Dr. Ágoston Szél, Vice-Rector of the host university, Dr. Miklós Tóth, Dean, and Mr. Zoltán Molnár, Secretary-General of the Hungarian Olympic Committee greeted the Universiade participants and leaders of several institutes of higher education and sports federations.

The speaker were very proud of their athletes and delegation members, as in Shenzhen, Hungary won 5 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals, finishing 16th on the medal table, the best result since Sicily, 1997.

HUSF President Dr. Tamás Sárközy, besides appreciating the results, attracted the attention of the participants on the forthcoming tasks for the further development of the Hungarian University Sports which should lead to an even more successful participation in Kazan in 2013.

He emphasized the outstanding achievement of swimmer László Cseh, who won three gold medals at the past Universiade. Hungary and Hungarian University Sports successfully represent the International University Sports movement, including EUSA and FISU.

In 2013, Hungary will host the 6th European Universities Karate Championship and in 2014 the World University Wrestling Championship in Pecs.
