Hannover ready to host the EUC Rowing 2015

The 9th edition of European Universities Championships Rowing will take place in Germany, in the City of Hannover from 9-12 September 2015. EUSA Technical Delegate for Rowing, Mr Josip Kostelic, travelled to there for the inspection visit on May 29 and 30. He visited the venue and checked on the services and facilities which will be provided for all participants. The inspection proved that everything is looking very good for this year’s EUC Rowing.

During his 2-day visit, Mr Kostelic was welcomed by Mr Jens Hundertmark, Director Rowing at the German University Sports Federation (ADH) and member of the local Organising Committee (OC), who presented first Rowing City Hannover. Mr Kostelic was introduced to the Student Rowing Club ANGARIA and Hannover Rowing Club 1884. These two clubs are members of the Hannover Regatta Association which will co-host the EUC Rowing 2015 and organize the event together with the Department of Academic Sports Services of Leibniz University Hannover.

While having a view from the top of the dome of New Town Hall, the EUSA Technical Delegate expressed his appreciation that all facilities for EUC Rowing are very close to the city centre of Hannover. All accommodations are in walking distance to the course.

Inspection visit

On his second day, the focus was on checking the progress of the organization. Mr Kostelic received a full progress report from the relevant members of the OC and provided lots of valuable feedback, always with focus on the needs and expectations of the athletes.

Storage area

With expected number of over 400 athletes from 17 countries, competing in 21 races, the OC of EUC Rowing is planning a record breaking event. The OC wants to create a unique event location in the heart of Hannover City. EUC Rowing campus will be established at the northern waterfront of Lake Maschsee. The Campus / Village will also serve as the focal point of the activities related to the promotion of the European Week of Sport - #BeActive campaign and activities.

Rowers at the Lake

Lake Maschsee is an artificial lake situated south of the city center of Hannover and represents a popular recreation area for the city’s inhabitants as well as a venue for numerous water sports. During the regatta, an additional social programme will be offered. The athletes will get the chance for further intercultural exchange by taking part into social activities such as sightseeing or guided stadium tours of the Bundesliga club of “Hannover 96”. Further an official reception for the Heads of Delegations and a Farewell Party for all participants will take place.

The OC has done an excellent job so far and it will lead to excellent championships. EUSA TD Josip Kostelic was impressed by the ambitious goal of the OC that they want to create an outstanding event for the participants.

Presentation of the Championship

The EUSA Inspection Visit was concluded with a presentation to the EUSA Executive Committee which also met in Hannover during the same time. The overview was given Mr Hundertmark on behalf of the Organising Committee and on behalf of EUSA Mr Leonz Eder as its Vice-President expressed his appreciation and wished the Organizing Committee all the best for EUC Rowing in September.
