Green Sports Hub Europe partners meet online

The Green Sports Hub Europe (GSHE) partners had their eighth planned online meeting between the 2nd and 3rd of May, to review their progress, discuss goals for the future, and arrange for their upcoming in-person conference in Brussels in June.

The project aims to test the potential of the sports sector, to be a sustainable channel and equip leaders with the knowledge and skills to put environmental sustainability at the center of their strategy.

On the first day after the opening words, the validation and discussion regarding the IO5 work package and additional updates to the action plan for IO6 were held. Additionally, the administration and financial issues were covered, and further preparations for the next GSHE events.

The timeline for 2023, the communication strategy, and the partners' own multiplier events were discussed on the second day of the meeting with the aim of promoting the Sustainability Self-Assessment Tool that was created by the GSHE partners to increase awareness and the significance of sustainability in the sport sector.

The major goal of the Green Sports Hub Europe (GSHE) initiative is to contribute to creating the sports industry more sustainable and greener. It does this, by serving as a support network for organizations to share knowledge and best practices so that they can grow and learn from each other.

The project partners seek to translate existing standards on environmental sustainability into practical action while aiming for the GSHE approach and tools to become a central part of sports organization good governance by utilizing experts, paying attention to the sector's needs, and providing sports organizations and their events with the necessary tools.

The three-year project, funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, is coordinated by Surfrider Foundation Europe (FRA), with project partners including the Association of Cities and Regions for the Sustainable Management of Resources (BEL), Sports Confederation of Portugal (POR), UKActive (GBR), Green Cycling Norway (NOR), Olympic Committee of Slovenia (SLO), European Volleyball Confederation (LUX), Rugby Europe (FRA), European Athletics Association (SUI) and the EUSA Institute (SLO).
