Green light for EUC Golf 2015

EUSA Technical Delegate for Golf Mr Rob Macpherson travelled to St Gallen between May 21 and 23, 2015 for the inspection visit, visiting the host city of the this year's European Universities Golf Championship. The inspection proved that everything is looking very good for the European Universities Golf Championship in St Gallen in September.

From the moment you arrive at Zurich airport or St Gallen train station, the impression you get is of a warm welcome and a highly organised event. The local organising committee have done an excellent job in providing first class accommodation, transport, practice and playing facilities - and it will lead to excellent championships both for men and women.

Working meeting during inspection visit

The Hotel Santispark is an impressive 4-star facility with fantastic adjoining sports facilities, sauna, spa, shops and the Swiss Olympic Centre for Sport and Medicine, with access to doctors and physiotherapists on-site. University of St Gallen will host the Opening Ceremony and a number of the appropriate EUSA meetings and receptions.

Golf course

The Golfpark Wildkirch is a 15 minutes car-ride away, and is one of Switzerland's leading golf resorts. The practice facilities again are Olympic standard with 3 practice putting greens, a chipping and short game area and 3-hole practice facility. The indoor and outdoor range houses around 30 players comfortably and stretches to over 300 metres. The Clubhouse is ideal for the Championships with registration area, professional shop, bar and restaurant (indoor and outdoor).

The course that will be used will be 5,850 metres in length (6,435 yards) for men, 5,185 metres (5,700 yards) for women with small greens (aimed for 3.5 metres per second/10 on the stimpmeter) and tight fairways. The rough, in places, is penal; and there are plenty of water hazards. Each hole presents a different challenge over a rolling terrain and will present a great championship venue for Europe's best university players.
