Great start of EUC Volleyball in Braga
The Opening Ceremony of the European Universities Volleyball Championship 2023 took place on July 16th in Braga at Praça do Município.
The Ceremony was attended by the Official Representative of EUSA, Mr Filipe Santos, the Rector of the University of Minho, Mr Rui Vieira de Castro, the President of the Academic University Sports Federation, Mr Ricardo Nora and the President of the Organizing Committee, Ms Margarida Isaías.
The European Universities Volleyball Championship will take place from July 16th to July 23rd in Braga, hosting 10 men’s teams and 15 women’s teams, from as many as 23 universities from 10 countries.
On behalf of the Organising Committee participants were welcomed by the President of the Academic Association of the University of Minho, Ms Margarida Isaías.
EUSA Executive Committee Representative Mr Filipe Santos also welcomed all participants and wished all the teams and participants who came to test their skills and abilities well ahead of the start of the competition, while also thanking the Organising Committee for all their contributions.
Mr Ricardo Nora, President of the Portugal University Sport Federation (FADU) stated special proudness in being one of the Organizers of many EUSA events and gave special thanks to the Organizing Committee, city of Braga and EUSA for the great support.
The Rector of the University of Minho, Mr Rui Vieira de Castro, wished best of luck to all athletes, while pointing out that fairplay and great sportsmanship are the two things they should take to the games, every day. He also officially opened the European Universities Championship in Volleyball.
The competition is organised by the Academic Association of the University of Minho, University of Minho, the European University Sports Association (EUSA) and with the contribution of the Braga City Council.
This is the second time the University of Minho hosts the European Universities Volleyball Championship, the first being held in 2004. In 2019, the University of Minho was elected the most active University in university sport.
EUSA is represented by EUSA SCAC Chair, Mr Felipe Santos, EUSA Technical Delegate for Volleyball, Mr Pablo Martinez Martinez, Assistaint Technical Delegate Mr Antonio Correa Benitez, EUSA Sports Manager Mr Miha Zvan, EUSA Staff Representative Ms Hristina Hristova and Ms Julija Furcic Results Management Supervisor. They will make sure that the event will run smoothly and without problems.
Prior to the Opening, the General Technical Meeting and the official draw for the competition, took place.
The title of European Universities Volleyball Champion is defended by Beykent University in the men’s competition and University of Bologna in the women’s competition.
The competition aims to promote new friendships, fair play moments and memorable moments to all participants, while celebrating the sports of volleyball.
