General Assembly of HUSF held in Budapest
On Thursday, April 25, the Hungarian University Sports Federation held its General Assembly in the Athens Hall of the Hungarian University of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, in Budapest.
The General Assembly was opened with the warm welcome by HUSF Secretary General, Mr Peter Juhasz, welcoming all the present members and guests,while sharing some starting points of the meeting.
Following was the opening speech of of Mr Lajos Mocsai, President of HUSF, briefly presenting the achievements of the federation during the last four years. He emphasized that he took over the presidency in a particularly difficult period, in the middle of a pandemic, which raised unprecedented obstacles for university sports. However, the collegiate sports community responded to the challenges as a true community, seeing the opportunities and reorganizing itself along the lines that resulted in one of the most successful four years.
He concluded with mentioning the importance of the upcoming, largest higher education and multi-sport event in Hungary's history, the European Universities Games 2024, to be held in Debrecen and Miskolc, which they hope will raise the national and international perception of university sports to an even higher level.
As the first item on the agenda, Mr Gyorgy Kovacs, Deputy Secretary General of HUSF, presented the 2023 professional report having as the main task of 2023: the preparation of the European University Games in Hungary in 2024. Mr Kovacs gave a detailed report and numbers related to the success of the Federation in the past period of time.
Beyond the financial report, the professional program and the presentation of the new members, one important point of this assembly was the election of the board members of the Federation for the next period of 2024-2028.
Mr Mocsai Lajos was re-elected on the position of President, continuing to lead the Hungarian University Sports Federation. He presented the program for the next 4 years, having the focus mainly on international sports diplomacy and bringing as many international university competitions to the country as possible. Among the plans of HUSF is the launch of a long-term sports career program and the establishment of a university sports scholarship. In line with this, the double/triple career working group of the MEFS began its operation on 18.04.2024, the aim of which is to develop a sustainable model for sports, learning and to keep the trinity of work in a healthy balance.
The MEFS board was elected for the next four years, including:
Prof. Dr. Bács Zoltán, Dr. Gál András Levente, Prof. Dr. Merkely Béla as Vice-Presidents; Prof. Dr. Ács Pongrác, Dr. Freyer Tamás, Rakaczki Zoltán, Vladár Csaba, Zelenák Dávid, Daniel Molnar as Board Members; Dr. Pavlik Lívia as Chairman of the Supervisory Board; and Somogyi Ádám Tibor, Daniel Jordan as Supervisory Board members.
At the MEFS General Assembly, awards established by MEFS were traditionally awarded to individuals in recognition of their outstanding work for university sports.
