Gender Equality in University Sports seminar held online
A Gender Equality in University Sports Worldwide webinar was successfully organised by FISU on Wednesday, March 10, in which EUSA also participated.
The webinar brought together representatives from the FISU Gender Equality Committee and Continental University Sports Federations' Gender Equality Committees who delivered short presentations about their activities in the field of gender equality in their regions, following which questions could be asked and discussions were facilitated.
Present on behalf of EUSA was Education and Development Manager and Secretary of EUSA’s Equal Opportunities Commission Ms Sara Rozman, Equal Opportunities Commission member Ms Ines Lenze as well as EUSA Executive Committee Member Mr Bill Thompson, who also serves as a FISU Education Commission Member.
Over 40 participants, which also included FISU’s Gender Equality Committee and Working Group, FISU Ambassadors and supporters of gender equality, were present in the webinar, who were welcomed by FISU First Vice President Mr Leonz Eder, following which FISU Gender Equality Committee Chair Ms Rosaura Mendez delivered a short welcoming address as well.
Each Continental University Sports Federations was then given time to present, with Ms Rozman presenting the activities, progress and aims of EUSA regarding gender equality within the organisation.
Following presentations from all continental federations, Ms Mendez delivered a presentation of FISU’s Gender Equality Committee before giving insight into this year’s FISU Gender Equality Awards which will be divided into two categories: the FISU Gender Equality Project Award and the FISU Gender Equality Champion Award. Nominations for these awards must be submitted by May 15, 2021, with the winner announced at the FISU General Assembly 2021 in Chengdu, China.
