FISU WUC 2018 Seminar in Lausanne

Between April 26 and 28, International University Sports Federation (FISU) hosted in Lausanne, Switzerland, its traditional WUC Seminar to prepare the hosts of future World University Championship for their job to come. Over 100 delegates, representing the Organising Committees of 31 WUCs to be staged in 2018 and invited guests were present in Lausanne. Organized every two years, the seminar seeks to aid in the preparation of the WUC events.

European University Sports Association (EUSA) was also represented at the event by Communications and Projects Manager Mr Andrej Pisl and Sports Assistant Mr Davor Travnikar. At the event, also some EUSA family members were present, as they will host FISU World University Championships in next year.

The three-day seminar was set up focusing on providing all attendants an overview of the fields related to the organisation and management of a World University Championship. The delegates had the opportunity to hear a wide variety of topics, including a general presentation of FISU to the specificities of protocol and communication, administrative processes and cooperation to the roles of various delegates nominated to the events, amongst many other interesting and in-depth presentations.

Participants

This was also the case for the four case studies related to local organising committees that organised a WUC event in 2016. Practical cases were presented by Lavinia Falese of the Cross Country Championship in Cassino, Italy, presenting one day at the championship; Cecile Busser shared the experiences of accreditation at the Triathlon Championship in Nyon, Switzerland; Ian Fitzpatrick talked about the work force management at the Sailing Championship in Perth, Australia; Neil Rogers about media and marketing at the Rugby Sevens Championship in Swansea, United Kingdom and Kunnar Karu talked about protocol at the 2016 Beach Volleyball Championship in Parnu, Estonia.

In front of the Olympic Museum

A special tour and visit of the Olympic Museum was organised for the participants of the seminar, and the event also offered opportunities to network and socialise.

Closing the WUC Seminar, FISU Vice-President Marian Dymalski who also officially opened the event, thanked the participants for their attendance and participation, as well as the staff and speakers for the preparations and valuable inputs.

Under the umbrella of FISU 34 World University Championships will be organised throughout the world in 2018, and 19 of them will be hosted in Europe.
