FISU University World Cup Football concluded in Jinjiang
FISU University World Cup Football, hosted by the Chinese city of JinJiang, came to an end on 31st of October. Two amazing finals concluded the event that saw Paulista University (BRA) and University of Beijing Normal University (CHN) emerge victorious from the men's and women's tournaments, respectively.
The finals preceeded the Closing Ceremony, the last event wrapping up this great Football Wordl Cup 2023: a tournament that saw 20 teams (12 universities in the men's tournament and 8 in the women’s one) compete and march under the big applause of all the spectators for all the ten days of matches.
The World Champion title went for the men's competition to Paulista University (BRA), which won the final 7-6 (1-1 a.e.t.) against the State University of Trade and Economics (UKR) team after the penalty shootout.
The World Champion title went to Beijing Normal University (CHN) team in the women's competition, which won 5-4 a tight final (2-2 a.e.t.) against Paulista University (BRA) team after the penalty shootout.
One of the teams qualified for this Cup through winning the title of European Champion at the European Universities Games 2022 in Lodz, Poland managed to reach the podium, winning the bronze medal: the University of Bordeaux (FRA) won 4-1 the women's third-place playoff against the University of Sydney (AUS).
Third place in the men's competition went to University of the Republic (URU) team, with 1-2 victory over Myongji University (KOR) team.
The matches took place in six different venues: Jinjiang Football Training Center, Jinjiang Sports Center, Quanzhou Vocational and Technical University, Quanzhou College of Technology, Yangzheng Middle School, Economic Development Zone.
