FISU University World Cup 3X3 Basketball 2024 held in China

The 2024 FISU University World Cup 3x3 Basketball, held in Xiamen, China, marks the culmination of a decade-long tradition of fast-paced and intense university basketball competition.

From November 22 to 24, Huaqiao University is once again hosting this international event, bringing together 22 universities from 18 countries to compete for glory in this dynamic format of basketball.

The FISU University World Cup 3x3 Basketball traces its roots to 2015, when FISU and FIBA launched the 3x3 FISU World University League, inviting top university basketball teams from five continents to compete in Xiamen, Fujian Province. Transitioning to a league system in 2016, the tournament established five global competition zones to determine finalists. Renamed in 2019 to enhance its global presence, the event was hosted annually by Huaqiao University from 2015 to 2019, which again serves as the venue for the 2024 edition, cementing its central role in the competition’s history.

This year’s competition features 24 teams—12 men’s and 12 women’s—representing top university talent from across the globe. We are especially proud to have seen European university teams from Spain, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, France, and last but not least Slovenia.

Through the 3x3 basketball competition that took place during the European Universities Games held this summer in Debrecen and Miskolc, Hungary, two of the most successful teams qualified directly to the FISU University World Cup: University of Ljubljana (men) and Riga Stradins University (women).

In the women's competition, the following teams took part: Carleton University (Canada); ITESM Monterrey and ITESM Toluca (Mexico); NTNU (Chinese Taipei); Riga Stradins University (Latvia); Szechenyi Istvan University (Hungary); Tsinghua University and Yunnan Normal University (China); USIU-Africa (Kenya); Uganda Christian University (Uganda); University of Sydney (Australia); University of Valencia (Spain).

In the men's competition, the following teams took part: American University Cairo (Egypt); ESPOL (Ecuador); Guangdong University of Technology and Huaqiao University (China); Mon-Altius University (Mongolia); Nantes University (France); UNIP (Brazil); Uganda Christian University (Uganda); University of Canterbury (New Zealand); University of Ljubljana (Slovenia); University of Valencia (Spain); Vytautas Magnus University (Lithuania).

The action-packed schedule is a testament to the fast-paced nature of 3x3 basketball, with games happening every 25 minutes. Each day of the tournament featured four sessions of four games each, interspersed with exciting shootout contests for men, women, and mixed teams. The competition blends the excitement of street basketball with the structure of elite international play, creating a high-energy spectacle for fans worldwide.

After three days of electrifying competition, the 2024 FISU University World Cup 3x3 Basketball crowned its champions. In the men’s category, Vytautas Magnus University (Lithuania) clinched the gold medal, showcasing exceptional skill and teamwork. Nantes University (France) secured the silver, while the Mon-Altius Physical Education Institute (Mongolia) claimed bronze with a strong performance.

On the women’s side, Tsinghua University (China) dominated the court to take home the gold medal, with Carleton University (Canada) earning silver after a hard-fought final. ITESM Monterrey (Mexico) completed the podium with a bronze, celebrating their impressive journey in the tournament.
