FISU strategic meetings with Continental Associations of Asia and Oceania

The International University Sports Federation (FISU) held the strategic meetings and FISU-NUSF seminar with the Continental Associations of Asia – Asian University Sport Federation (AUSF) and Oceania – FISU Oceania December 9-15 at the Australia’s Gold Coast, hosted by Australian University Sport.

FISU First Vice-President Mr Leonz Eder opened the event, also taking a moment of silence to remember Honorary FISU President George E. Killian who recently passed away.

Co-organised by Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF) and FISU Oceania at Bond University, delegates from 17 countries and regions from Asia and Oceania attended the seminar. FISU President Mr Oleg Matytsin joined the seminar with a video welcome message as he encouraged the delegations to work together to realize the FISU global strategy. The seminar continued with presentations from FISU Oceania President Mr Martin Doulton and Vice Chair of FISU’s Development Committee, Mr Shen Zhen.

AUSF Assessor Kairat Zakiryanov engaged the attendees with an overview of AUSF and its active role in hosting FISU events, including Summer and WInter Universiades, World University Championships and the 3x3 Basketball World University League. Afterwards, Mr Doulton provided insight into FISU Oceania and how it engages with its members to develop sport at universities.

Representatives from the national university sports bodies in Asia and Oceania shared their event hosting experience of national and international sports events and the International Day of University sport. Discussions were encouraged also through working sessions, sharing good practice examples and exploring leadership skills.

In the spirit of collaboration and exchanging of ideas, FISU Oceania President Martin Doulton and AUSF Assessor Kairat Zakiryanov led an animated discussion around ensuring cooperation between FISU Oceania and AUSF continues.

Venues visit

Part of the seminar was also spent touring some of the venues for the Commonwealth Games including the newly constructed Carrara Sport and Leisure Centre that will host the badminton, para powerlifting, weightlifting and wrestling events at the 2018 Games.

The seminar also included workshops with marketing and sponsorship messaging, impact of sponsors on events as well as experiences in attracting sponsors.

Workshops

Equipped with theory and templates, representatives from the 17 countries and regions in attendance actively participated in a workshop where activities were identified for the 2018 IDUS event, with a focus on identifying unique opportunities available and potential sponsorship opportunities.

The seminar focused on leadership and project management themes, covering good practices in project management, developing a project plan as well as promotion and sponsorship. The program was composed of plenary sessions, parallel workshops and case studies.

Participants also enjoyed a cultural programme and in the end Mr Shen Zhen on behalf of FISU thanked the administrators of AUSF and FISU Oceania, as well as the hosts, for organising a great event.
