FISU President receives high distinction
The Senate of the University School of Physical Education in Wroclaw conferred to Prof. Claude Louis Gallien, the President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) the highest academic distinction – the title of doctor honoris causa.
The solemn ceremony was held on September 27 in Wroclaw in the majestic Aula Leopoldinum hall at the occasion of inauguration of academic year 2014/15. The event gathered a great number of authorities, as well as students and lecturers of the University. Also the EUSA President Mr Adam Roczek was present at the ceremony.
During the presentation of the scientific and organizational achievements of Prof. Gallien, the Vice Rector of USPE, Prof. Andrzej Rokita underlined that whole life of Prof. Gallien has been devoted to science and sport. The career that lead a student – athlete, twice university champion of France in hammer throw and finalist of Tokyo 1967 Universiade to the post of Professor at Descartes University in Paris and President of International University Sports Federation.
Expressing appreciation to the USPE Rector and Senate, Mr Gallien said ‘I’m twice happy today. Firstly, because the title was conferred to me but in fact the award is given to FISU. This is recognition for all my Friends all over the World who believe that university sport could make this World better. Secondly, because by accepting the title I become a member of the University School of Physical Education community.’
Mr Claude Louis Gallien is the third President of FISU after Primo Nebiolo in 1998 and George Killian in 2006, who received the title of the USPE doctor honoris causa.
