FISU kicks off 2022 sports events
International University Sports Federation (FISU) started the new season of sport competitions. 2022 will be a busy season for FISU, with 14 World University Championships and 8 University World Cups on the programme, as well as the World University Games.
The FISU World University Championships and World University Games feature athletes competing for their countries while the FISU University World Cups, similarly to the events by the European University Sports Association (EUSA), see competitors represent their universities.
The first in-person FISU sporting event since the Amsterdam 2020 FISU Championship Speed Skating, took place in Jachymov, Czech Republic. Between February 22 and 26, the 2022 FISU Championship Ski Orienteering took place. This kicked off this year's season of international university sports events by FISU. Other World University Championships will be held throughout the rest of the year, featuring also Speed Skating, Cross Country, Sport Climbing, Futsal, Golf, Orienteering, Waterski & Wakeboard, Beach Volleyball, Triathlon, Mind Sports, Canoe Sprint, Modern Pentathlon, Squash and Rowing (the latter postponed to 2023).
The FISU University World Cups will feature Fin swimming, Floorball, Handball, Powerlifting, Rugby 7s, Combat Sports, 3x3 Basketball and Cheerleading.
In the summer, being postponed for a year due to Covid-19 pandemic, Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games are planned to be held between June 26 and July 7, 2022. The event will feature Archery, Artistic Gymnastics, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Diving, Fencing, Judo, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Rowing, Shooting Sport, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Volleyball, Water Polo and Wushu.
