FISU Forum Montpellier 2016

13th FISU Forum was held between July 4-9, 2016 in Montpellier, France. Under the title "From the origins to the future of university sport", the FISU Forum brought together students, officials and other key partners involved in the life of the movement of university sports federations around the world.

The major goal of the FISU Forum is to share ideas and knowledge on key issues relating to the development of sport and university sport worldwide. The Forum combined academic sessions and sporting and educational activities.

The Opening Ceremony was moderated by Mr Richard Arnaud, the President of the local Organising Committee, who welcomed all participants to the Southern French city and introduced Mrs Verena Burk, FISU First Assessor and chair of the Education Committee.

The Forum was opened by the President of the International University Sport Federation (FISU) Mr Oleg Matytsin and Mr Jean-Francois Sautereau, President of the French University Sport Federation (FFSU).

Opening Ceremony was concluded with presentations of guest speakers Mr Alexander Schischlik, Chief of Youth and Sport at UNESCO, and Ms Agata Dziarnowska, Policy Officer of the Sport Unit in the European Commission.

Plenary session were dedicated to sports ethics, anti-doping e-textbook, traditional and modern leadership models, quality of sports events volunteer management, achieving gender equality, support networks. These were combined with the Youth Leadership seminar and Workshops, which offered more insight into the subject matters first presented in plenary parts.

Principles of university sport

The event brought together participants from 49 nations and also encompassed Forum Fair, sports and cultural activities, receptions and plenty of networking opportunities.

Closing of the Forum

The Forum was closed by Mrs Burk on Saturday, followed by passage of the FISU flag from Montpellier FISU Forum hosts to the future Forum hosts from Krasnoyarsk, Russian Federation.
