FISU-FASU-NUSF Seminar a resounding success
FISU, together with the Federation of African University Sport (FASU), held an online FISU-FASU-NUSF Seminar on December 11-12 which was a resounding success, with various matters regarding university sport in Africa discussed.
Representative from 14 African countries were either physically present or in attendance virtually. Held under the theme “Crafting Strategy in the Face of Uncertainty”, the two-day Seminar involved various keynote speakers including FISU First Vice President Mr Leonz Eder, FISU Vice President and Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) President Ms Peninnah Kabenge and FASU Vice President Mr Life Chemhere.
Chairman of Uganda’s National Council of Sports and Secretary General of the Uganda Olympic Committee Mr Donaldo Rukare was a distinguished guest at the Seminar, as he delivered a presentation on his COVID-19 recommendations and the future scope of university sport on the continent post-pandemic.
Three-time Olympian and double Gold medallist in High-Jump Mr Dalton Grant also gave a keynote address, focusing on reconstruction and recovery as an opportunity to improve athletes’ resilience during the global Coronavirus crisis.
The Seminar included various other presentations, panel discussions and workshop sessions on the way forward in relation to the varying categories of university sports, benefitting all in attendance ahead of what s hoped to be a successful 2021 season.
