FISU Executive Committee meets in March in Brussels

The first Executive Committee meeting of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) since the recent elections took place in Brussels on March 4 and 5, 2016. European University Sports Association (EUSA) was represented by its President Mr Adam Roczek. FISU President Mr Oleg Matytsin opened the meeting, highlighting the current situation and shared the future path of FISU. Mr Matytsin then invited other Executive Committee members to present their reports.

1st Vice-President Mr Leonz Eder and 1st Assessor Mrs Verena Burk outlined the future activities of the Development and Education Departments respectively. FISU Treasurer Mr Danzandorj Bayasgalan presented the financial outlooks and proposed a review of activities for sustainable future. FISU Secretary General Mr Eric Saintrond gave a summary of his extensive report, focusing also on the Summer Universiade in Gwangju and General Assembly, as well as preparing for the next events.

Following the presentations and discussions, FISU Executive Committee adopted the change of the age limit of student athletes in FISU events, setting it between 19 and 25. FISU Global Strategy Project for the next decade was also introduced, to generate ideas and procedures where and how FISU will continue its growth by defining strategic goals and actions. The long term project will involve the entire FISU Family as different Working Groups will be established.

FISU Technical Delegates in summer and winter sports have been appointed for a two years period, and their mandate will be renewed in 2017 for the period of four years, which will avoid any break in supervision of World University Championships and Universiades. Other members of the FISU Committees have also been appointed.

Napoli SU 2019

The 2nd day of the meeting focused on the progress reports, presentations and awardings of the upcoming major events. Following the reports of the 2017 Summer Universiade in Taipei City and Winter Universiade Almaty 2017 and Krasnoyarsk 2019, bids for the Summer and Winter Universiades have been presented.

Lucerne

Naples (ITA) was confirmed as host city for the 2019 Summer Universiade, following reopening of the bidding procedure after withdrawal of Brasilia. Also the hosts of the 2021 Winter Universiade was announced - Lucerne (SUI). With the attributions, the Executive Committee meeting came to an end and the next meeting will take place in Taipei City in October 2016.
