FISU Executive Committee meets in Brussels
The Executive Committee of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) met in Brussels, Belgium between May 23 and 25, 2014.
 
Before the start of the meeting, the members paid a tribute to Mr Leonardo Coiana, Mr Yury Parfenov and Mr Hi-Chul Chang, three prominent members of the FISU Family who recently passed away. FISU President Mr Claude-Louis Gallien then presented his report, highlighting the expansion of FISU network and partners, having good relations with the International Sports Federations (ISFs) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

In order to improve the work of the technical committees and to be more in tune with the sports regulations of the ISFs, President Gallien proposed to the EC to form a ‘sports working group’, which was agreed by the EC members. In order that sufficient support to the Organising Committees is assured and that quality competitions are delivered, Mr Gallien pointed out the need to limit the number of World University Championships. He also recalled the importance of the establishment of the ‘International Day of University Sport’ with the support of UNESCO. In this frame, FISU is launching a student festival ‘Lausanne in Motion’ on 20 September, 2014.

FISU Secretary General Mr Eric Saintrond then reported on the past events and presented the members of the Executive Committee with an overview of the preparations for the upcoming FISU activities. He presented the future headquarters of FISU which will be located on the campus of the University of Lausanne.

Other reports included the report of the FISU Treasurer Mr Bayasgalan Danzandorj and representatives of various FISU commissions, inclusing Mrs Alison Odell, Chair of the Committee for Education Services (EDUC); Mr Stefan Bergh, Chair of the Committee for the Development of University Sport (CDSU); Mrs Rosaura Mendez, Chair of the Gender Equality Committee; Mrs Verena Burk, Chair of the Media and Communication Committee. The first day concluded with the reports of the Medical Committee, the Committee for Sports Regulations and the Intercontinental Council.

Presentation of the final report of the Summer Universiade Kazan 2013
 
The second and the third day of the meeting of the FISU Executive Committee were dedicated to the final reports of the 2013 Universiades and progress reports of the future Winter and Summer Universiades 2015, 2017 and 2019 and the World University Championships 2016 and 2018. At the meeting, the FISU Board accepted two new international federations to the programme, the International Cheer Union (ICU) and Modern Pentathlon (UIPM), which will be featured in the WUC programme in 2018.

At the occasion of the meeting, a special reception was held at the FIDSU Headquarters on May 24, honouring the people who significantly contributed to the work of FISU and development of the university sport on international level. Four individuals were awarded with the Jean Petitjean FISU Award, handed by the FISU President and Secretary General.

The awards were given to Mr Leonardo Coiana (ITA) posthumously, Mr Rudolf Bosshard (SUI), Mr Constantin Anastassov (BUL) and Mr Roch Campana (BEL).
