FISU Executive Committee meeting in Taipei City

The second Executive Committee Meeting of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) in the year was on August 15 and 16, 2017, in Taipei City, Chinese Taipei, just before the General Assembly and Summer Universiade which will be also be hosted in Taipei.

The 28 member strong committee, led by FISU President Mr Oleg Matytsin, exchanged views and outlined the future steps the Federation will take within the university sports movement.

FISU Executive Committee Meeting was attended also by the President of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) Mr Adam Roczek.

At the meetings, overall activity reports were given by FISU President and Secretary General Mr Eric Saintrond, including updates on previously agreed short- and medium-term plans.

Initiated last year, the outlines of the federation’s strategic goals and vision of was presented once again before rolling it out publically at the General Assembly. The strategy documents outline how FISU looks to position itself in the world sport marketplace.

The Committee was acquainted also with reports by various commissions, presented by the respective chairs; Committee for the development of University sport (CDSU), Education committee (EDUC), Student committee (CDE), Gender equality committee (GEC), Sports management committee (CGS) and Media and communication committee (CMC).

Summer Universiade reports

Focusing on the world university games, FISU Summer Universiade sports team reported on Taipei’s readiness to host the upcoming Universiade where 271 international-level medal events will attract some 7,900 competitors over the period of 12 days. Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade Progress Report by the local organising committee was also given. Report on the Summer Universiade Naples / Napoli 2019 was presented as well.

Also the Winter Universiades were discussed and reported on; final report from Almaty 2017 Universiade, as well as progress reports for Krasnoyarsk 2019 and Lucerne 2021, as well as prospects for 2023 Winter Universiade.

Sports events concluded with the World University Championships (WUC), taking a look at the upcoming 2018 WUC season with 35 single-sport events, to be organised across the globe.

Educational events and projects were discussed as well, including the FISU Volunteer Leaders Academy, Young Reporters Programme, World Conference on Development through Sport, University Anti-Doping Textbook and other projects.

The next FISU Executive Committee meeting is set to take place March 2-3 in Lausanne, Switzerland, when the new FISU Headquarters is foreseen to be inaugurated.
