International University Sports Federation (FISU) held its first Executive Committee meeting in 2018 in Lausanne on March 2 and 3. The meeting was also used to officially open the new FISU Offices in the Synathlon building located at the University of Lausanne campus. EUSA was represented at the meeting by its President Mr Adam Roczek.

FISU President Mr Oleg Matytsin opened the meeting with a moment of remembrance of the Honorary FISU President Mr George Kilian, who passed away last year. FISU also bestowed former FISU President Mr Claude-Louis Gallien with the Emeritus Honorary Member award.



Reports from FISU Treasurer Mr Bayasgalan Danzandorj and Secretary General Mr Eric Saintrond delivered updates on FISU budget, activity report and new initiatives, including Healthy Campus programme, focusing on health and well-being of students. The focus then turned on the marketing strategy, considering the value that FISU’s brand and events carry. As 2017 marks as a year that digital media contributed greatly to FISU’s marketing strategy, the importance and opportunities connected to digital media were presented.



In March 2016, FISU Executive Commitee created a 10-year global strategy commission, in order to work on helping student athletes to reach their full potential. After presenting the draft before the Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade and collecting feedback after that, the march Executive Committee meeting has been a chance to unveil the finalized FISU Global Strategy 2027 material.



Next part of the meeting consisted of various reports from Sport Management Committee, Committee for the Development of University Sport, Education Committee, Student Committee and Gender Equality Committee. It was also a chance to discuss the ongoing projects, like Ambassadors Programme or Future Volunteer Leaders Academy, that is set to take place from 14 to 22 June in Kazan, Russia.



Second day of the meetings focused on the future FISU events, beginning with the FISU Forum, educational event aiming to promote global University Sports Movement. Two bids were presented, one from Hungary and one from Ukraine and the 2020 edition was awarded to be held in Budapest and the 2022 event in Kiev.



The organisers of the past Summer Universiade in Taipei presented their final progress report, reflecting on the high-quality fields of play, record-setting performances and exceptional spectator support.



With 2019 Winter and Summer Universiades coming up, it has been a chance for an organizing committee teams both from Napoli Summer Universiade and Krasnoyarsk Winter Universiade to present the progress made in regards to the events. The organisers of the 2021 Lucerne Winter Universiade also presented their report at the meeting.



The ongoing and upcoming World University Championships and World University League events were also presented. The 2018 season is expected to have a record number of 8000 participants at 34 events in 26 different countries.
