First Portuguese teams qualified for EUG 2024
Over 165 athletes and 24 teams participated in Portuguese Academic Federation of University Sport (FADU) first National University Championship of the season, with the badminton, tennis and table tennis championships qualifying for next year's EUSA European Universities Games (EUG) in Debrecen-Miskolc, Hungary.
 
The Portuguese University Sports season is officially open with this National University Championship held in the city of Porto between the 16th and the 20th of October. The local organizing committee was composed of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto and the Student Association of Higher Institute of Engineering of Porto.
 
 
NOVA University of Lisbon (Mixed Badminton), University of Porto (both male and female teams – Table Tennis), University of Coimbra (Female team - Tennis) and NOVA University of Lisbon (Male team - Tennis) qualified for the 2024 European Universities Games in Hungary. FADU awarded the winners with a figurative plane "ticket" to mark the respective winner's qualification for the EUG 2024, and several other portuguese teams, in several different sports, will play the national championships with the goal of qualifying for EUSA biggest event of 2024 in Debrecen-Miskolc.
 
 
FADU, founded in 1990 and currently considered one of the largest sports federations in Portugal, is a Sports Federation born from a movement of several academies in the country with the aim of boosting, encouraging and organizing sport within Higher Education. It is responsible for promoting projects and organizing activities in the field of recreational and informal sports.
At an international level, the more than 330 medals won in world and European university championships stand out. And, as an organization, it has already been awarded the award for the most active federation in Europe, awarded by EUSA, on 5 occasions, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018.
 

FADU currently has more than 8,000 affiliated practitioners competing, divided into 50 collective and individual sports, involving more than 100 clubs and 500 teams.
It annually organizes 76 National University and 48 regional Championships and officially awards 307 national university titles, culminating in the organization of the University Sports Gala, to honor the best of the year.
