Finnish Student Athlete of the Year

Finnish Student Sports Federation celebrated its 87th anniversary in various ways. The highlight clips of the 25th Winter Universiade in Erzurum were shown and medallists cheered. Finnish teams performed very well in Turkish ice arenas; Rockettes and Marigold IceUnity dazzled with their double victory in synchronized skating and women’s ice hockey team pocketed very respectable silver medals.

The excellent success of Finnish female athletes was emphasized by signing of the Brighton declaration, which values the equal involvement of women in every aspect of sport. Moreover, the Finnish Student Athlete of the year -award went to a female athlete for fifth year in a row. This time the honoured sportswoman was shooter Pauliina Frilander, who won gold medal in 50 metres rifle prone in World University Sport Shooting Championships 2010. Twenty-two years old Pauliina is studying multilingual communication in the University of Tampere. One of her goals for this year is to conquer the podium in Shenzhen Universiade in August.
