Final countdown to the European Universities Games 2022
On April 7, an official ceremony unveiling the countdown for final 100 days to the opening of the European Universities Games 2022 was held in Lodz. Highest representatives of the main partners of the event - Lodz University of Technology (TUL), University Sports Association of Poland (AZS), the City of Lodz and European University Sports Association (EUSA) started the final countdown.
The European Universities Games Lodz 2022 will officially start with the opening ceremony on July 17 at the Atlas Arena. 100 days before the start, a countdown clock was unveiled in the center of Łódź, attracting local - as well as international - visitors to the event.
The final deadline to register for the event is April 15, welcoming student athletes from European universities to participate in the event. The European Universities Games are not only a chance to compete, but also an opportunity for international exchange of experiences, combining education and culture with sport.
The unveiling of the clock was attended by EUSA Supervision Commission members and office staff, as well as representatives of EUG2022 ambassadors, who themselves are looking forward to the start of the event. "Sport deserves to be experienced, so that these positive emotions flow to us, but also from us. Big events attract these emotions like a magnet. If we want to take such a dose of endorphins, we cannot be missing here - both as athletes and fans" said Adam Kszczot, indoor world champion and multiple European runner-up in 800m. Martyna Grajber, fellow-ambassador, volleyball player of ŁKS Commercecon Łódź added "The European Universities Games include many disciplines, so I am convinced that everyone will find something for themselves. After the pandemic, which partially froze sport, we are certainly thirsty for great emotions, and this event will certainly provide us with a huge amount."
A few days before the unveiling of the official countdown clock, the group of ambassadors was joined by Euzebiusz Smolarek, famous Polish footballer born in Lodz, who played for the Polish national team in the years 2002 to 2010.
EUSA, as a licence-holder of the event, sent a supervision commission and office team to Lodz, to monitor the progress and assist in the preparation for the event. The team was lead by EUSA President Mr Adam Roczek and Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik. The delegation was welcomed on behalf of the Organising Committee by Mr Dominik Lezanski, main coordinator of the event, and his team.
In the three days of their stay, the joined team went through the main areas of the organisation, reviewed the venues, sports, cultural and educational programme. Apart from the expected 5000 participants of the Games, Lodz will also host the Rectors' Conference, which will be held from July 15-17, at the Lodz University of Technology and will cover different topics, including sport & technology, dual career, and others.
