FASU General Assembly 2017 in Kigali

African University Sports Federation (FASU) held its General Assembly in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda on March 18, also celebrating FASU's 45th Anniversary. The Assembly was attended by representatives of member federations and honorary guests, including FISU President Oleg Matytsin, 1st Vice-President Leonz Eder, AUSF President Xue Yanqing, EUSA President Adam Roczek and others.

The meeting in Kigali brought together representatives from 20 FASU member countries. The official opening of the Assembly was preceded with a visit of participants to the 3rd FASU Cross-Country Championship. The championship, held on the campus of the National University of Rwanda, saw teams from African universities competing on a 10-kilometer course.

Special run for Assembly participants

Before the winners received medals from the hands of FISU and FASU Presidents, also Assembly delegates and participants took part in an improvised 100-meter run.

At the Assembly, FASU President Mr Malumbete Ralethe welcomed all delegates and guests and invited President of FISU – Oleg Matytsin, President of AUSF Xue Yanqing and President of EUSA – Adam Roczek to address the participants.

In his speech Mr Roczek thanked the hosts for the invitation and hospitality, forwarding also friendly greetings from Europe to all African countries. He underlined the importance of Continental structure for the developing of the university sport, well established relations between FASU and EUSA and importance of mission of the university sport – to make World more peaceful and friendly  through University sport.

The Assembly welcomed 6 new countries as FASU members: Burundi, Somalia, Madagascar, Sao Tome and Principe, Niger and Morocco, approved annual reports and activity plan for coming period with ambitious plan to significantly raise internal income and reach 8000 participants at FASU Games in 2018. The delegates discussed as well question of language of communication, as FASU has two official languages.
