Exciting developments in Portugal
Various events and changes have been part of FADU in the previous month, among which were the University Sports Gala, changes among the Board members and the opening of a new Student-Athlete House and a Museum.
Portugal University Sport Federation - FADU held their XIII University Sports Gala on October 9, in Espinho, celebrating their achievements, and also awarding the best student-athletes, coaches and teams of the year.
The occasion served to honour all medallists in the FISU World University Championships. Portugal are world university champion with women’s futsal team (Braga), men’s beach volleyball team (Maceió) and with Pedro Casinha, gold medal in K1 200m at the Canoe Sports FISU World University Championship.
At this gala the participants in European University Games and Championships from EUSA, where Portuguese student-athletes won 35 medals, were also honoured at the FADU Gala.
During a special ceremony, that took place on 13 of October, Mr Ricardo Nora, student at the University of Beira Interior, was elected as the new President of the Portugal University Sport Federation, for 2022-2024.
The new executive board, led by Mr. Nora, has more eight members: Francisco Garcia, Carlos Santos, Sofia Jarreta, Luís Ribeiro, Gabriel Tavares, Rui Sousa, Beatriz Leandro and Diogo Braz, from different universities all over the country. Changes has been made regarding the position of Secretary General, as Mr Arménio Coelho has been newly appointed. The other governing bodies that also signed the investiture were the General Assembly, Audit, Disciplinary and Justice board.
On 13 of October, the Portugal University Sport Federation (FADU) has also officially inaugurated the Student-Athlete House and the Portuguese University Sport Museum of FADU, in Aveiro.
In the museum are represented the international participations and respective achievements, the organization of national competitions, the evolution of national trophies awarded by FADU since 1990, the main moments of institutional history and the distinctions received in the last few years.
