EUSA webinar on gender equality
European University Sports Association and the EUSA Institute invite you to a webinar on gender equality, entitled Addressing Gender Imbalance in Sports Organizations, to be held online on July 1, starting at 4 PM CE(S)T.
The webinar aims to address gender-unbalanced representation in decision-making positions in sports organisations and challenges women encounter when running for top positions. We will discuss measures and realistic objectives on advancing gender equality in sport leadership.
Sport – a traditionally male-dominated area - has been for decades shaped by social constructions of femininity and masculinity, hindering meaningful participation of women in numerous disciplines. Despite the gradually increasing participation of women in sport, women remain underrepresented in its top decision-making bodies of sporting institutions at local, national, European, and global levels and for that reason require more visibility and action, not least because of the symbolic and educational importance of these fields and their powerful role in shaping public opinion and perceptions. Women leaders can act as role models and encourage women and young girls to take part in sports, both as a leisure activity and as a potential professional career. Better equality in decision-making positions can also play a crucial role in preventing violence and combating gender stereotypes.
