Delegation of the European University Sports Association (EUSA), with EUSA President Mr Adam Roczek and Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik visited Coimbra, the host city of the 4th European Universities Games 2018.

EUSA representatives met on December 1, 2015 with the representatives of the University Sports Federation of Portugal (FADU), University of Coimbra, Coimbra Students’ Union (AAC) and City of Coimbra. The four organisations have recently signed the cooperation agreement on the organisation of the Games.

The aim of the visit was to evaluate the progress report and to define the activity plan for the upcoming year. The meeting took place at the University of Coimbra which is one of the oldest Universities in Europe.



Mr Mario Santos, Secretary General of the Organising Committee firstly presented the progress report and agreed OC structure. During the meeting, Mr Daniel Monteiro, FADU President, Mr Bruno Matias, Academica President, Mr Joao Gabriel Silva, University of Coimbra Rector and Mr Carlos Cidade, Deputy Mayor for Sport confirmed the role and commitment of their institutions for successful organisation of the Games. Participants after agreed on the activity plan for 2016.



A visit to the Convention Centre and UC Sports Centre was also organised, where EUSA representatives could witness the ongoing construction works in the facilities, which will be used also for the Games in 2018. The renovation of the University Sports Centre is one of the Games legacy.



The visit concluded with the Press Conference organised at the University of Coimbra. The 4th European Universities Games will be held in July 2018, with the following compulsory and optional sports: Badminton, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Football, Futsal, Handball, Judo, Rowing, Rugby 7s, Table Tennis, Tennis and Volleyball. Eventual demonstrative sports will be announced later.
