EUSA Supervision Commission visits Rijeka and Zagreb

Members of the Supervision commission for the European Universities Games 2016 from the European University Sports Association (EUSA) visited Rijeka and Zagreb - the host cities of the next Games on September 28 and 29, 2015.

The Commission is composed of three members of the EUSA Executive Committee, Aitor Canibe Sanchez, Kemal Tamer and Arie Rosenzweig, as well as the EUSA Secretary General Matjaz Pecovnik and Sports Manager Patrik Perosa.

The visit started with getting an overview of the latest developments in the organization of the Games in Rijeka. That included gathering information on the latest projects, the pace of construction of the new student dormitories and the continuing efforts of the organizing committee in ensuring the best European Universities Games so far, setting a standard for all future events.

They met the Mayor of the city, Vojko Obersnel, as well as the Rector of the University of Rijeka, Pero Lucin. EUSA representatives thanked them for their continuing support in organizing the Games and used the opportunity to visit the venues of the competitions in the following year.

Rijeka will host competitions in seven sports, gathering approximately 1500 students. The participants will match skills in martial arts Taekwondo, Karate and Judo, and team sports of Water Polo, Handball and Basketball 3×3. Aside from those, Rijeka will host competitions in Swimming, including a swimming competition for athletes with disabilities.

After Rijeka, EUSA Supervision commission visited Zagreb on September 29. Their main focus was on the accommodation and the progress of renovation of the student dormitory Stjepan Radic, as well as questions of logistics, including transportation and catering. In addition, they discussed the importance of volunteering, pointing out that no sport event can function without the help of volunteers.

At the Mayor's Office in Zagreb

The EUSA delegation also visited the office of the Mayor of Zagreb. They were warmly welcomed by the Deputy Mayor Vesna Kusin who reaffirmed the support of the city for the EUG 2016.

In addition, they were also welcomed by the Rector of the University in Zagreb, Damir Boras, with whom they discussed on the current and future process of the organization of the event.
