EUSA Seminar concluded
Following the EUSA Convention, which was held on November 15 and 16, the European University Sports Association (EUSA) organised a seminar for the members of the technical commission on November 17, 2013 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The purpose of the Seminar was to do preliminary analysis of the survey which was launched among member associations, evaluate procedures and regulations related to technical aspects of EUSA sports events, gather valuable experiences from the Technical Delegates and together develop recommendations regarding sports programme and rules for the future.
The participants were first welcomed by Mr Adam Roczek, EUSA President and Mrs Ivana Ertlova, Chair of the EUSA Technical Commission. They stressed the important contribution and value of the technical delegates throughout the history of EUSA, from the European Universities Championships (first editions were held in 2001) and European Universities Games (with first edition being organised in 2012).
EUSA Sports Manager Mr Patrik Perosa presented statistics of the recent sporting events. Although generally there is an increase in number of sports, universities and participants, in some sports inconsistent participation has been observed, so special attention was given on increasing and stabilising participation, not compromising quality of the events. Special attention was also given on the technical information in the bidding process for events, reflecting on past experiences and recommendations by the Technical Commission.
Participants also gave some recommendations for criteria in regards to adding new sports to EUSA events and stressed the importance of cooperation with European Sports Federations. Cooperation agreement with the European Handball Federation (EHF) was given as an example of good practice, and cooperation with some other federations is currently being finalised.
Other new concepts and ideas have also been discussed and the outcome of the seminar will be reported to the Executive Committee members, who will be able to use the input in preparing plans for the future sports programme in EUSA.
