EUSA receives European Fair Play award

European University Sports Association (EUSA) was awarded with the European Fair Play Plaque of Merit and Diploma 2014. The award was presented by the European Fair Play Movement (EFPM) on the occasion of EFPM Congress and General Assembly held on October 10, 2014 in Riga (LAT).

Over hundred guests present on the Gala Dinner were firstly welcomed by the EFPM President, Mr Christian Hinterberger, who recalled the achievements of the European Fair Play Movement celebrating this year its 20th anniversary.

Mr Wilfried Lemke, United Nations Secretary-General's Special Adviser on Sport for Development and Peace and the special guest on the event, also addressed the guests. The highlight of the Gala was when Mr Miro Cerar, EFPM Vice President and President of the Awarding Jury announced the organisation to receive the European Fair Play Order of Merit:
"For continued and remarkable contribution to the implementation of the ethical values and fair play principles in sports, the European Fair Play Plaque of Merit and Diploma 2014 is awarded to the European University Sports Association (EUSA)."

The award was presented to Mr Adam Roczek, EUSA President and Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, Secretary General by Mr Hinterberger and Mr Lemke.

In his speech, Mr Roczek thanked on behalf of EUSA for the great honour, stating that “Sport can publicize Fair Play values like nothing else. People will attend stadiums if they are sure in fair result.” You can read his speech in full HERE.

Afterwards, Mr Pecovnik presented the guests the highlights from the European Universities Games Rotterdam 2014.



At the end, the EUSA representatives presented Mr Hinterberger a special commemorative award at the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the European Fair Play Movement.
