EUSA President visits Slovenia

In the week between February 17 and 21, the President of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) Mr Adam Roczek visited the EUSA Office in Ljubljana for a series of working meetings.

 

EUSA President Mr Roczek first met with the EUSA Staff; namely Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, Sports Manager Mr Patrik Perosa and Communications and Projects Manager Mr Andrej Pisl. The topics of discussion were the current matters, with special emphasis on the EUSA General Assembly and Conference which will be held in Denizli, Turkey between April 3 and 6, 2014. During his stay in Ljubljana, Mr Roczek also met with the President of the Croatian Academic Sports Federation (CASF) Mr Zrinko Custonja.

The topic of European Universities Games also received a lot of attention, focusing not only on the upcoming Games in Rotterdam, the Netherlands between July 24 and August 8, 2014, but also on the future event in Zagreb-Rijeka in 2016. Apart from the 2014 and 2016 editions of the European Universities Games, also the next steps in the bidding process for the 2018 event was discussed, having two official candidate cities Coimbra, Portugal and Tampere, Finland. 

EUSA representatives with Mr Cerar from EFPM

 

Mr Roczek met with Mr Miroslav Cerar, the Vice-President of the European Fair-Play Movement (EFPM), discussing the EUSA activities in the field of fair play, and the cooperation between the two organisations. On hehalf of EFPM Mr Cerar will award the Enno Harms Fair Play Award at the special EUSA Gala, which will be organised in Denizli as a part of the General Assembly of the organisation.


Meeting with the Rector of the University of Primorska Mr Marusic
 

On the invitation of the Rector of University of Primorska Mr Drago Marusic, EUSA President, Secretary General and Sports Manager also visited Koper, the host city of the European Universities Basketball Championship in 2015 to discuss the event organisation. While in Koper, the EUSA representatives visited some of the sporting facilities and were also met by the Mayor of Koper Mr Boris Popovic. Both hosts are a big sports supporters and basketball fans themselves, so it is no wonder that Koper was also one of the hosting cities during the European Basketball Championship in 2013.

EUSA and WAKO Europe meeting

 

A special meeting was also held with the representatives of the European kickboxing Federation (WAKO Europe) which is a Continental Division of the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO). Mrs Aleksandra Nedelkovska (MKD), Boyan Kolev (BUL) and Vladimir Sitar (SLO) expressed interest in EUSA and its sports programme, discussing potential cooperation in the future.

 

The outcomes of the working meetings will be presented at the EUSA Executive Committee meeting in April.
