From July 2-9, 2023, the European Universities Tennis Championship was organised in Granada. The event was hosted by the University of Granada, an EUSA Associated Member.
Over 110 participants from 23 universities from 13 countries took part in this year’s edition of the event. The University, as a higher education institution, is committed to sustainable development which also reflected on the overall organization of the event.
On the occasion of the championships EUSA representatives Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, EUSA Secretary General, Mr Aitor Canibe, EUSA Vice President and Mr Liviu Matac, EUSA Auditor, met with Mr Pedro Mercado Pacheco, Rector of the University of Granada and Mr Jordi Mercade Torras, Director of Sport Centre at the University, to discuss the possibilities of eventual next EUSA events to be organised in Granada.
The participants visited several sport facilities owned by the university, where sport activities for over 68.000 students are organised on a daily basis.
University will in 2031 celebrate the 500 Anniversary, and several events will be organised on that occasion.
The well organised EUC Tennis raised the idea to host an EUSA event also on the occasion of this remarkable anniversary; the possibilities and conditions for organisation were the main topic of discussion between EUSA and University of Granada representatives.
EUSA would like to thank the University of Granada for the successful organization of the European Universities Tennis Championship and its intention to further contribute to the development of European university sport.
