EUSA hosts insightful Gender Equality Webinar

The European University Sports Association hosted an insightful and interactive webinar and workshop on gender equality on Tuesday, December 15.

The online workshop focused on gender inequalities in sport, with a special attention given to the GETZ project, one of EUSA’s projects on gender equality, equity and inclusion.

Almost 50 participants from across Europe joined in the online event, which was both informative and interactive as meeting attendees were able to engage with and discuss the topic.

Following an introduction by EUSA Communications and Projects Manager Mr Andrej Pisl, terminology regarding gender equality was explained, before EUSA’s activities and gender representation at authoritative level was discussed.

A short game testing the attendees’ knowledge of both male and female athletes was played, before EUSA Education and Development Manager Ms Sara Rozman presented the Gender Equality Toolkit for generation Z (GETZ), of which the EUSA Institute is a partner.

Presentation on GETZ Project

The GETZ Project, supported by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, tackles the gender imbalance in sport in relation to leadership and management roles in the industry, engaging especially the Generation Z - youth and young adults. Various online courses and MOOCs were created as part of the project and are available for free, allowing participants to learn about the importance gender equality and the challenges faced by many females in various sectors.

The second part of the webinar split the participants in four breakout groups, where a video focusing on tennis star Ms Serena Williams was watched and discussed, with various opinions and insight given. Each breakout group was moderated by a current or former EUSA Office volunteer in Ms Anett Fodor, Ms Zrinka Tabain, Mr Mariano Carcatella and Ms Valeria Leoci. A member from each breakout group was then able to give their feedback to all attendees of the meeting.

Webinar participants

For the last part of the webinar, attendees were able to participate in an interactive quiz focused on women in sports across various sectors, including events, media and commerce.

Ms Rozman then concluded the webinar, acknowledging that improvements regarding gender equality in sport were necessary, while encouraging attendees to reflect on how they can have a positive impact on gender inequalities in their organisations and communities, making use of some of the material available from the GETZ Project.
