EUSA Handball begins in Bydgoszcz

The 10th edition of the EUSA European Universities Handball Championship officially kicked off on July 4 following the Opening Ceremony which took place at the Centre of Education in Physical Culture and Sport in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

The Ceremony was attended by EUSA Technical Delegate Ms Maria Carmen Manchado Lopez, EUSA Assistant Technical Delegate Mr Leopold Kalin, EUSA Executive Committee Representative Mr Filipe Santos as well as EUSA Sports Assistant Ms Lea Medvesek and EUSA Assistant Sports Manager Mr Liam Smith from the EUSA Office.

Also present was the Vice-President of Bydgoszcz city Ms Iwona Waszkiewicz, Vice-Rector for Development and Cooperation of Kazimierz Wielki University Mr Marek Macko, Director of Competition Department of Polish Handball Federation Mr Mirosław Baum, Vice-President of Academic Sports Association Mr Mariusz Walczak, and President of Kuyavian-Pomeranian Organisation of Academic Sports Association Mr Marek Karpiński.

On behalf of the Organising Committee, participants were welcomed by the OC president Ms Katarzyna Domańska.

EUSA Executive Committee representative Mr Filipe Santos then welcomed all participants and wished all the teams well ahead of the start of the competition, while also thanking the Organising Committee for all their contributions.

The competition is organised by Academic Sports Association and Kazimierz Wielki University with the contribution of Polish Handball Federation. In previous years, KU AZS UKW in Bydgoszcz organised the World University Shooting Sport Championship and many National Academic Championships in various disciplines.

This year’s EUSA Handball Championship will take place from July 4-10, with 11 male and 11 female teams representing 19 universities from 11 countries taking part.
